Building Barricades

by Mark Hopwood   Dec 20, 2004

Chained tightly to the wall
I can hear the voices calling me
I can hear them trying to get through
Through the mist that is wrapped around me
Digging down, deeper the hole
I can feel you flailing around in the sounds
I can feel you growing louder and clearer
Chained to the wall I found, hanging around
And building the Barricade.

Lying inside this hole in the ground floor
I don't know I guess i feel down
I don't know if I'm trying to rescue me
Maybe I'm happy with the tears of a clown
Picking away, as the new day falls in
All i hear is this fading sound
I guess I'm sinking deeper down
I can't see through the wall i found, Hanging around
I'm building the barricade.

I'd like to be free
Not chained to this misery
I'd like to be free
But that isn't meant to be
Its all a charade
Building my barricade
Lying in the bed I made
Building the barricade.

Lying quietly inside myself
I hear the lines on my face crack around me
I see pieces of me fall away and rust
While the river of tears soaks up the misery
Its never over until it starts again
Maybe its pouring like lemonade
Maybe its dripping like blood from a razor blade
I can't forget its all a charade i found, hanging around
I was only building a barricade.
