Through My Eyes

by Ashley   Dec 25, 2004

I look at this world all around me,
With eyes scanning for possibility,
The things I see I cannot agree,
For they are altering what I believe this place to be.

I see yellow, white, brown and black
Oppressed by discrimination of ethnicity and race,
And I try to understand but I am taken aback,
For all I see is a want for equality in which they chase.

For every man I see being racist
I imagine all the friends and love that he has missed.
For every harsh word I hear a person say
I imagine an innocent child kneeling and for that person they pray.
For every cruel act I see a man do
I imagine his child so frail and new
And I imagine other’s babies who may never exist
All because that man decided to raise his fist.

And every time I experience this oppression
Every time I see a face with a sad expression
I wish that this world is the Utopia I dream
But its not and the tears will just continue to stream.
