Livestrong

You see everyone is wearing them
These little yellow bracelets that say "live strong"
So wear them well, and wear them with pride
To help cancer patients along

There are diagnostics made most every day
Not to mention millions of deaths
From this little thing we call “cancer”
People seeing their very last breaths

There was once a story of a little girl,
She too, like many of you, had cancer
No one would tell her what was going on
She just wanted a single answer

She stayed at the hospital for months at a time
Even her hair started to fall out,
She started to get very sick
But she still was yet to pout.

Her parents made sure to keep it a secret
That she was going to die so soon and young
The doctors said she had a few years to live
Somewhere around August or June

After about two years, she was at her worst
She could have lived a life so great
But now she could not even walk down stairs
Why was this happening? She was but eight.

“Mommy, am I going to die?” said the little girl
In the sweetest of all voices
Her big blue eyes flooded with tears
In her life, she had absolutely no choices

Her day came, gray and gloomy, when she was to die
Who knew after a single nap she would never wake again?
She could have had a great life growing up
Playing with dolls like Barbie and Ken

She was just an innocent child
She barely ever even spoke
She would have never even died
If only the cancer had never prevoked

And that’s why you wear those yellow bracelets
The ones that say “Livestrong”
For those cancer patients, and for the little girl
that didn’t know what was going on

Great poem. Nothing is amiss. I think those livestrong things are sad. And I think it is terrible that there is a kind for people who are totally against it. If I still was a teen, I would probably wear one.. Keep up the good work, never quit. 5/5
