Beyond Oblivion Comes Realization

by Alison   Dec 28, 2004

The clock strikes 2:34
And I am, yet again, awake.

Images of him;
Impossible to escape my mind
And somehow,
On this night of tears and regret,
You sleep.
To you, a man of no flaws –
Impeccable,
A sweetheart,
A lover,
A best friend.

To me, the outcome of realization;
No man is perfect.

You, with your long blonde hair
Putting on the act that
Everything is alright,
But it’s not.

It’s not alright the way I stay up
All night as he sleeps peacefully,
And you along with him,
As regretfully unaware of the world around you
As Sleeping Beauty.
How can you not see all he’s doing to me?
With all the fighting
And yelling
And tears that fall faster
Than I can catch them.
He says, “I’m sorry.”
And you forgive him before
I have finished arguing.

And you sleep.

Blind to the fact that
The hand that holds you
Is often the hand that holds you down.
Blind to the fact
That you’ve lost everything
You’ve worked your entire life
To achieve,
To be.
A world of possibilities
Has become a world
Revolved around him.

I am dying inside out as
You blindly watch me drift away
Into the abyss of the
Land of no return.
Non-stop arguing
Is tearing me apart.
You are beautiful,
And strong,
And independent,
And never let a man control you
In the chance your eyes are open and
Sparkle with pride and confidence;

But you sleep.

Wake up.
Please,
Wake up.
And come to see you’re losing me.
I don’t want to be just his girlfriend,
I want to be me.
I want you to be a part of me;
Again.
Please,
Wake up.
Wake up.
I’m tired of being left behind.
I just want…
I just want to be allowed to live.

Let me.
