You Should Know

I wish you knew how happy you made me
How you made my life complete
How I've never had a friend like you before
It's like we never skipped a beat

We finish each other's sentences
We read each other's minds
What would I do without you
Best friends until the end of time

You're thinking about going back
To the place you came here from
I told you it would break my heart
You said I was being dumb

"We've only met this year," you said
"And although we're great friends now,
How do you think my old friends felt
When I left my old hometown?

I knew them since kindergarten,
Grew up with them through the years,
So you cannot possibly feel
Their sadness and their tears."

Well friend I'm sorry you feel that way
I thought you knew me better
Therefore I hope you get my point
Of writing this little letter

Time doesn't always make a difference
When a friendship is split apart
The thing that matters the most
Is the footprints they leave in your heart.
