To Hold You Tonight

by Oliver Stevenson   Dec 31, 2004

I would wait for years
To be by your side
To have you close, so near
Just to hold you tonight

If only love could find a song
If only it found our hearts
Put them together, kept them strong
Let this true love start

Did you ever think, we were meant to be?
I thought we were, still do now
Hopefully one day we’ll see
That we made it through somehow

I don’t mind spending everyday
Outside your door in the cold
Standing on your corner in the pouring rain
Waiting for you to come outside to hold

I’ve had you sop many times
But somehow I want more
I went your love to be mine
I want you to be at my door

New Years Eve and I sit alone
Praying to see your face tonight
Waiting for an invite to your home
Without having to put up a fight

What I wouldn’t give them
To hold you tonight
But I hide here in my den
Crying throughout the night

I hope they’re happy
They ruined our night
I wish that they could see
Why we have to fight

It is because we are in love
That we want to see each other
Tonight of all nights but they shove
Us apart, away from one another

A new year, a new start
A new dawn, which I won’t see
One that we have to spend apart
You so far away from me

I hope they’re glad
I hope they’re happy
They ruined our night, made us so sad
Why do they do this to you and me?

*I wrote this because my gfs parents wont let us see each other tonight (New Years Eve) and so this is a poem about the situation*
