Regretted Words: Sweet Dreams

by Natalie McPhee   Jan 2, 2005

Footsteps, echoed through the alleyway,
Running away,
The one he loves left behind,
She follows,
In Desperation,
Her heart pounding against her chest,
Trying to holler after him,
Her words taken,
By her overpowering love.

The chase still intense,
She reaches the river, a torrent of desperate tears,
Passionately,
She swims across,
She spies his shadow,
Far into the distance,
She Sighs,
He’s out of reach,
Across the meadow.

She finds herself in the woods, a maze of shattered dreams,
Breathless,
She can’t go on,
He Stops,
Looking back, he begins to run
Towards her,
Stroking her cheek,
He whispers words he’ll regret,
“Sweet Dreams”
He runs, looking back lovingly.
