Is it so hard to ask,
To go back for just one day,
Don't you remember how we used to be,
For I still recall the first day.

We started the morning ignoring,
But we spoke more as the day passed,
We walked together for hours,
I wished it forever would last.

The rain soaked through our clothes,
Our feet and hands were freezing cold,
But you walked, your arms around my waist,
And many a story was told.

We were fooling about, purely messing,
You were trying to get me on the floor,
You failed, I beat you, I teased you like mad,
You took this as me wanting more.

Around Herstmonceaux castle we wandered,
In the cold, the wind and the rain,
While everyone else was fast asleep,
My heart was going insane.

You then asked me about my love life,
Questioned how it was going,
I answered, "I'm single", I have been for a while,
By now my feelings were showing.

It was 3am, time to separate,
We stood arm in arm on the grass,
I asked if you wanted your jumper back,
Which I'd been wearing since night before last.

You told me to keep it, "Keep yourself warm",
Then you hugged me, squeezed me so tight,
Then we shared our first precious kiss,
Under the starry sky of the night.

Our first day was how the rest did end,
Happier and happier as I feel in love,
I thanked God for you every night,
He had sent you to me from above.

Now that times have changed,
And the times that we shared are no more,
I sit here alone, every single night,
Questioning, why can't we be as before.

Even though we're just friends now,
My love for you will still grow,
