Addiction

You do it once but it’s never enough
Not if you’re like me
Instead of talking when things get rough
You just can’t let that blade be

So, naturally, you take it to your arm
The feeling is sensational
The adrenaline will take away the alarm
Just do what they say is irrational

You’ll find it doesn’t matter to you after a while
And you won’t need a reason
It becomes relaxing to watch your blood run like the Nile
Down your arm like the river during flood season

But be careful for I know that when you no longer care
Sometimes things go wrong
Maybe you cut deeper than you’d normally dare
And maybe you’d wait too long

I’ve been there before and I know what it’s like
This life that’s thrilling and scary
I’ve been to the point where I almost wasn’t all right
Though no one but me was wary

Just know that when you take this path, dangerous and long
You’re out of your jurisdiction
Though it’s not a behavior that’s crazy or wrong
It’s a very bad addiction
