She leans against a tree at the bank of the river
Her eyes gaze towards the sky
Around her is the forest where the moon’s light is delivered
The white glow both eerie and sly
Her long, raven hair dances in the breeze
Her dark eyes now scanning around
Listen to the wind rustle the leaves on the trees
And watch as loose dirt leaves the ground
She looks across the water where the full moon is reflected
And quietly hums a melody
A song her mother used to sing that she’d quickly perfected
But now the notes die on the breeze
She had come here often to play and sing
The water had always calmed her
But now through the wind her screams seem to ring
As she remembers what things were
The river had swept her away, never to be found
So, now she sits alone
Alone on the riverbank just sitting on the ground
In her fingers, she just twirls a stone
Now her haunting song dances on the wind
Her voice beautiful and soft
A young girl whose life took a terrible spin
Now a young soul drifting and lost
