Last chance saloon

by Michael D Nalley   Jan 6, 2005

One day I went to socialize, and those I wanted to visit were not home
I decided while I waited, for their return, I would go out and roam
I was enjoying the sights of a beautiful God given afternoon
I decided to go see what was happening at the Last chance saloon

There were drunks drinking beer, one of them seemed so very proud
When he ridiculed the belief in God, and he shouted it out loud
I was not moved to pity when I laughed at the ignorant fool
He was so angered by my laughter, that he almost lost his cool

The stupid drunks seemed so very humiliated, that they then demanded that I leave
It was the lost security of being undisputed, that they could not conceive
It became obvious to me after I attempted to argue, to stimulate their thinking
Apparently they were more interested in proclaiming their ignorance, while they were drinking

Only those thirsty for the truth will open their ears
They only wanted to open their mouth and their beers
The very mention of God, how was it so resisted?
How could they fear so much, what they said never existed?

I'm afraid that if they stopped at a last chance
Church that was teaching, fear of the lord
They had better try to change their circumstance
Or pay a price very hard to afford

    Hey

This wonderful flowing poem, very funny yet elliptical in style. It touches an unknown boundary for me.

Thank you for your comment...Look forward to reading more!
