9 Markings (Justifiable)

by paperdoll   Jan 6, 2005

It is the guilt
That creeps around
Slithers around
Pulling from the corners down
In the light
Of pale morning.
Shock
And churning horror
Of a kind
Will unbind
Pulsing in your clarity of mind
And in between
The jagged layers
Of a skin that is not your own
(But could be in time).

And it is the fear
That reaches you
That covets you
Threatens to divide you in two
While the bitter daybreak
Splits your soul
After the numbing night had made you whole.
Now you cover them, cover them, cover them
Cover the ugly sights
That frighten you:
Cover the cuts
That are not cuts
For they are only markings that have rested
For the night.

These markings
Are only markings,
And in a mind that is not your own, can be
Justified
Pushed aside
Under covers are anaesthetised
And will remain to be only markings
If the guilt
Is gone by morning.

Here's one of those pieces that is done before you know it. I reached the last line and blinked...then the second time, blinked. Finally the third time I disciplind myelf to slow down and take in every line to make sense of the last. Finally I just read it again after enjoying it so much.

And need I say more than I'm riveted? Your style is captivating Paperdoll.
