The last cigarette

by _the_punk_kid_   Jan 6, 2005

I sat on our bench last night,
And I smoked the last cigarette from the pack;
I watched the ash fall to the floor,
And watched the smoke rise above my head.
It rised, twisted and turned,
Curling in upon itself,
Heading towards the night sky above.
I watched in amazement,
Hypnotized…
Something so simple can be so beautiful;
It reminded me of us.
The simplicity and the happiness,
I could wake up in your arms,
Hold your hand, look in your eyes-
I was allowed to feel happy;
You reminded me now of the smoke,
Mesmerizing.
And now I watch as it fades away,
Just like you;
Fading away, just out of reach,
Leaving me here behind, all alone

    Such beautiful imagery. It's strange that something so simple can set off a trillion memories.
