Just Walk Away

Under the soft glow of the street lamp
I saw the lovers meet
Witnessed their lips touch
Heard their hearts beat

Felt the passion and desire
As they stared into each others eyes
Beneath the sparkling stars
Like diamonds in the sky

I saw him take her hand
Wipe a strand of hair from her face
And he wouldn't speak for what seemed
Like a thousand nights and days

I pressed my face closer
To the cold hard window pane
As he opened his mouth
And out his words came

I felt her heart break
Saw the betrayal in her eyes
One cold tear rolled down her cheek
As she felt the reality of his lies

He tried to hold her close
She pushed him away
Her heart was destroyed
There was nothing he could say

Down came the rain
Angels crying tears for her above
She swore to herself that day
She would never again feel love

He sighed deeply with the wind
Kissed her one last time, so slow
Then walked out of her life
Never got the chance to know

She was carrying life inside her
She was to tell him that day
He would be a daddy soon
But instead he threw her away

I watched her fall
On her knees to the ground
As the rain from the heavens
Came pouring down

I closed my eyes
Blinking back tears
Watched the girl fade
And slowly disappear

Id seen this story
So many times in my head
Like a movie it played
But kept repeating instead

And now I sit here
Holding my child so close to me
When I stare into those big blue eyes
So much of him I see

I gently kiss her forehead
Watch her fall into sleep
My gift, my miracle
My love for her so deep

Years will go by
She'll get bigger and grow
She'll wonder who her daddy is
But only I know

Of that tragic day
