Once Upon A Time

Once upon a time, in a fairy tale dream I was in.
I found you love, and gave you everything worth giving.
Happiness was all I knew, and I thought you were too.
But I soon realized the truth, with nothing I could do.

Someone ran away with your innocence, and left you dry.
Each and every night you prayed, wishing you could die.
Razorblades pushed me aside and became your closest friend.
I pleaded every night for you to give me your heart to mend.

But the cuts just ran deeper, and the pain never ended.
I was no longer needed, so our love was suspended.
Sitting on the outside looking in, I watched with horror.
And each night I prayed, asking how He could do that to her.

Until the time came, and I had all that I could take.
I picked you up, and put you above my head for your own sake.
Picking up your sharp friend I felt the pain you went through.
And tears came to my eyes as I realized there was nothing I could do.

So from here on out, the promises I made will be kept true.
Until my last breath I will keep you happy, doing everything I can for you.
No more tears will spill out of your crystal-blue eyes at night.
And as my last promise, ill do my best to keep away the fights.
