Survival of the Fittest

by Michael D Nalley   Jan 10, 2005

This is my story of Jurassic period lost
It seems size and might has a cost
The randomly selected will survive
The virus species is still alive

If virus could speak and large lizards could hear
Lizards would understand what they failed to fear
If the virus could be seen as the mighty one
Would they be so vain as to deny the sun?

Would the microorganism boldly say?
Your might did not come in a day
You consume me yet I consume you
All natural life is consumed it is true

Would an arrogant virus proudly boast?
I can survive anything without a host
No microorganism has strength alone
Many have consumed flesh to the bone

I am so fine that I cannot be viewed
But I will turn you to oil that’s crude
I cannot be cut with Occum's razor
Or seriously tracked by a trail blazer

Was I not in your primordial soup?
The essence of your prehistoric poop
Yes I was here before Louis Pasteur
Or Moses Lewis Linton for sure

Few creatures ever looked to me for hope
While gazing through their microscope
I am a physical cause of disease
Was I selected to destroy or please?

I am as the endless darkness that only changes
I am endless life and death as it rearranges
I am a cultural revolution
The essence of evolution
