No Surrenders

by Erica Brown©   Jan 10, 2005

As I stumbled upon death's door,
I felt like I had been there before.
Emotions were correspondent,
Yet I didn't know what anything meant.

But there lay a path,
That was the beginning of my wrath.
I followed it down,
Until I began to walk all around.

Something had stopped me,
I thought it was you but it couldn't be.
You had left long ago,
Why were you there, I did not know.

Cautiously I walked closer,
Till I could hear music from a well-known composer.
Your voice was so sweet and tender,
I felt myself begin to surrender.

But as we began to touch,
I jumped away from your clutch.
There was no way I would welcome you back,
I could not be your beautiful plaque.

You hurt me before,
I wasn't your w****.
So this time I'll let you fall,
And I won't care at all.
