Daddy's Birthday -part 2- 'The Mystery Fortune'- true story.

by ♥-Sharon Ardern-♥   Jan 14, 2005

After daddy die
We all tried our best
But momma she no longer
Wore her pretty dress

Momma seemed
Even sadder than us
We tried to be good
And not make a fuss

One day she got a letter
That she’d been waiting for
She told us that
We couldn’t live here anymore

That there were too many debts
And we’d have to move away
But she smiled, speaking queerly
And told it would be okay

She told about her parents
And this mystery fortune
And she said that
Is could be ours soon

She explained that
When she was young
She was cast out
I couldn’t imagine what she could have done

But momma said that she
Was the only one left to inherit the will
And she said that her father
Was really very ill

I was scared but then
Momma said the house was grand
The biggest house we could imagine
Lying in many acres of land

We smiled at the thought
Of these new grandparents of ours
Momma said they had a thousand rooms
And a hundred cars

But she explained
We couldn’t take much at all
Because of the debt
Soon some men would call

And take all our pretty things away
I cried as I thought if the things, daddy’s gifts
That I couldn’t keep cos they were worth so much
And I cried sorting through my bits

I looked about my room
It was horrible to think of someone else there
My pretty bed, the doll daddy gave me
I had to let it go, and it seemed so unfair

My Momma came and saw me sad
And she bent down and said:
Cathy, You’ll live in a thousand more rooms
Just as special before you’re dead

I loved my Momma, we all did
But there was a nasty surprise in store for us …
We were to be hidden away
We didn’t know … so went without a fuss …
