What's it coming to?

Whats this world coming to?
More children in the streets,
Starving mothers and fathers,
Who cant afford shoes for their kids feet.

Whats this world coming to?
War, fighting, and guns?
Children taking weapons to school...
Making the other kids run.

Whats this world coming to?
When was innocence lost?
The children are expected to fail,
No matter what the cost.

What this world coming to?
You really don't feel safe,
Putting your child on a school bus,
Pondering of the fate.

Whats this world coming to?
Drugs are given so freely?
Kids shooting up, popping pills,
To hide their inner feelings.

What happened to the world,
That I knew when I was young?
How will it be for my daughter?
Now that her life has finally begun?

Will she grow up happily?
She has a few counts against her already....
A father that didn't want her.....
All because of the money.

Will she be another statistic?
Will shots be heard in her school hall?
Will she be the one who gets away?
Or will she be one of those, who fall?

Will she stay away from drugs?
Or will her very best friend,
Tell her "Try this! Its great!"
Putting her life to an end.

Whats this world coming to?
It scares me every day,
As I'm watching my child just beginning,
To run, and laugh and play.

You cant protect them forever,
They have to learn and grow,
I just wish this world was a better place,
That she could get to know.
