Home

I'm lost in a land, such an unhappy place.
I asked for directions, but there's no escape.
They all just laugh, and give me fake smiles.
A little girl told me, she's been here for a while.
She lost her daddy, and she wants to go home.
But everything she calls, no one answers the phone.
I walked for a while, and I saw this old man.
He was wearing a sign, and holding a can.
He lost his job, and he lost his wife.
Then he ended up here, with a horrible life.
He used to have it all, but now he's alone.
He cries every night, and he wants to go home.
Then there was this woman, such a beautiful creature.
She had an elegant body, such wonderful features.
She was holding a child, with a tear rolling down.
I walked up to her and asked, why she was wearing a frown.
She grew up in the ghetto, her dad put her on the street.
Yet one day she saw this man, she wasn't planning to meet.
He took her to his home, he gave her anything.
One day he was shot, and she lost her everything.
She was left with a child, and no place for them to go.
She's been trying for years, but she can't find her way home.
A couple years pass, a young boy walks up to me.
He asked me for directions, and I knew he couldn't see.
I had to break it to him, that there is no escape.
Then the next thing you know, there's a smile across his face.
He told me he lost his mother, in a fire in '95.
His daddy was real upset, and commited suicide.
He told me he was upset at first, but he knows he's not alone.
He said a man told him there's more to life, and now he's found his way home.
