Silence

by Mira   Jan 17, 2005

I stand at the edge of the cliff
A sheer drop down into a black, endless pit
Strong winds blow, taunting me
Tears

I look around me and see nothing
No one
I feel my silence
It feels me
It surrounds me and grips me hard
I want to scream, but no one is near
No one ever was
Tears

Words choke me
There is nothing to say
No needed explanation
To end it all, just need one step
To get away from the silence
Tears

The silence that holds me back and takes away joy and thrills and happiness and love and leaves me with pain and guilt and hate and anger and torment
Tears

Release me, Silence!

I stand at the edge of a cliff
A sheer drop down into a black, endless pit
Strong winds blow, taunting me
I let them carry me away
Beyond the silence

I think that's such a great poem. It sounds like you really put your emotions into it, and you did it well. Nice work! if u have time, vote or comment on some of mine, thx!

I read that all the way through. Then I read it a second time. Third read, it still gave me shivers.

No complicated undertones, but a strong theme communicated; your "silence" seemed almost palpable. Each of the stanzas had a really strong sense of rhythm.

    I liked it. Chilling.
