My Fairytale

by Stef   Jan 17, 2005

It’s almost like a fairytale when we pretend it’s not a game.
A children’s picture book is what is displayed
Covering up the truth of this never-ending horror story.
One takes the fall, the other runs to their side
Helping them up with tears hidden in their hands.

My prince came to rescue me but forgot our happily ever after
Bringing me instead to this lustful game of jealously and dominance
Where the weak of heart quickly fall behind
Giving up their innocence to remain tied for the victory.
Cheating isn’t against the rules; it’s practically the name of the game.

When the opponent comes close to leaving the play
Strategy is key to winning them back.
A perfectly timed “I love you” with a couple of tears on cue
Will always rope them back in for yet another round
Where their broken heart will fall victim to this game once again.

I’ve been losing since the very beginning of this novel
While my prince’s victories are as plentiful as my tears.
Because he makes the calls, and he gets away with everything
Each serious offense just shrugged off, because everything will be ok
Because even the sickest love stories have happy endings, right?

It’s almost like a fairytale.
