Welcome to Paradise [Amerika]

by Luke   Jan 18, 2005

They were so young,
Their futures so bright,
The past was so alive,
They never thought twice

Now they’re f?cked up,
And their hearts are torn,
They say that they’re alright,
But their eyes are worn

Courtney cuts to feel the pain,
Her legs and arms,
Will never be the same,
In life she sees no love to gain

I can’t read the news today,
Closed my eyes tight,
Beg to God, “Make this go away...”

She decided what to do,
Decided that her life was through,
Took the knife with a swift motion,
Forever ending damn emotion

(Front page of the local paper)
“Dead at 14,”
Sadly enough,
Death isn’t what it seemed

Take us across our country,
See what we’ve become,
The sun shines across the lucky,
While in the darkness the children come

Is this how it ends?
Paranoia masks his friends,
Johnny sees no other choices,
Pulls the trigger and rejoices

I can’t read the news today,
Closed my eyes tight,
Beg to God, “Make this go away...”

It wasn’t supposed to be like this,
As he fired he felt no happiness,
He looked around, at the dying,
Shot himself, he lay crying

(Front page, USA Today)
“Teen Kills Classmates,”
And I’m sorry to say,
But they were already dead

This is AmeriKa,
Open your heart,
This is AmeriKa,
When do our lives start?

This is where we are,
Open your goddamn eyes,
This is AmeriKa,
Hear the children cry

I liked the ending sequence to this and how you spelled america with a k, reminds me of that one rammstein song. completes the whole poem. nice job.

Nice poem, though the 2nd is better. And their heats are torn.. Do you mean hearts? Still, good poem, it's an awesome piece of work.
