Armageddon

Armaggedon
By
Joshua Greenway

Where were you?
Where were you when the earth stopped turning?
Hiding from that which could not be stopped?
Where were you when the fields began burning?
Running from flames that rose higher than clouds?
How did you feel when the mountains fell?
Seeing the giants of stone that stood so proud for so long?
Could you see the faces of the souls escaping from hell?
Screaming for freedom from eternal damnation
For a moment I stood on the edge of a hill,
Watching the world go up in flames,
And asked my self the question,
How did mankind earn such a bane?
As the flaming juggernaut rocked the sky
All things looked up and stood helplessly by,
It knocked the cities flat, the sky lost it's blue.
Questions flooded my mind as Armageddon came,
When the winds never again blew,
Who was to blame, who was to blame?
Why had the wrath of the gods brought the earth down 'bout our ears?
Destroying our homes and belongings
Killing all and everything that we hold dear?
So, as I stood on that hill watching the end of days,
Asking my questions to the mountains ablaze,
I realized that on this bleak morning in may
Nothing would ever be the same,
I fell as the hill began to shake and frighteningly bend.
It occurred to me that we would not remember this in any way,
I stood there dying and watched the world end.
Nothing escapes judgment day….

“It is the decisions we make in this life that determine whether
or not our legacies withstand the corroding sands of time.”
