My Prayer

by Danielle   Jan 20, 2005

Late at night i kneel beside you, your head bowed, your tiny hands clasped in prayer

your lips move, asking the heavens above to keep us safe
and guide us through the shadows of the darkness

your eyes open, glistening with tears, you tilt your head to the night sky, your silent prayer drifts away with each fallen tear

and i wonder, what is it you ask for?

with a simple Amen, you crawl into bed, your young eyes meeting mine once more and I get lost in their innocence. . .

but it's the wisdom of your words, that leave me wondering, where is the child you once were?

a gentle kiss and your gone from this world for just one more night
and I can't help but ask the man above to grant me one wish. . .

Give him back his innocence and give me his pain.
