Girl With Another Face

by Ariah Kaltesh   Jan 21, 2005

I’m about to tell you the story of a girl
Who most seem to misunderstand
Though her tale is hard to believe, give it a whirl
And see if you might finally understand

On the outside, she’s a great deal of fun
A smile always on her face
And a wit so sharp she can stun anyone
And easily put them in their place

She’s a talented girl in the entertaining arts
She shines like a star on the stage
Her love of dance takes flight when the music starts
She can’t make her feet behave

Her heart belongs to a wonderful guy
Who cares for her just as much
Now she knows just what this feeling is that money can’t buy
And she uses it as her crutch

She sounds like she has everything in the world
A life to make anyone jealous
But deep inside she’s a miserable girl
To whom God seems to be calloused.

The smiles and laughs are all part of the mask
That she hides behind so often
At times concealing her emotions is quite a task
A misery that rarely softens

Her wits and humor are mostly a defense
She jokes when things get rough
She tries so hard to run from her suspense
She feels she has to be tough

Her writing talents stem usually from depression
Her best pieces can bring tears
To all her work, she tends to have some relation
Putting on paper all her fears

The boy she loves with all her heart
She’s been forbidden to see
By her father who tries to drive them apart
And just won’t let them be

She lets out all her pain through self-mutilation
She’s tried a few different types
But now it’s gotten to where she can’t fight the temptation
To self-inflict pain to get through her plights

Though she’s seeing a counselor, she can’t see an end
To all the pain and misery
So, she’ll just continue to hide and pretend
Drowning silently in her disarray
