It was just a joke

Perspective 1

I saw this nerd with a pile full of books,
I tripped him,
He fell,
I laughed.
He said “because of people like you, I want to kill myself”.
I said “dude it was just a joke, don’t take it all seriously”.
He said “if you lived my life, you would too”.
I said “whatever”;
And walked away.
Later I found out that he killed himself.

Perspective 2

When I woke up I fell out of bed,
And my sisters laughed at me and called me clumsy.
I was late to school because I missed the bus.
When I came to school everyone called me dumb when I entered the class late.
I got striate A’s so everyone called me “the class nerd”.
My dad was ashamed of me because I was not athletic like he was.
Sometimes he would get so mad at me,
For not being like him,
That he would hit me…hard.
He’d even yell at me saying I was a disgrace on the family and meant nothing to them.
On my way home from school that day I was carrying all of my books home;
When this one guy, who I hate, tripped me and laughed.
When I got home no one was there.
I felt sad, mad, and like I meant nothing to anyone.
I wrote a note that said….
“Because of people who make me feel like I am nothing, I am going to kill myself. So to my mom I’d like to say ‘why didn’t you help me? Why didn’t you care? Why weren’t you there? Why couldn’t you see what he was doing to me?’ to my dad I would like to say ‘why did you hurt me? How could you do this to me? Don’t you care that I am going to kill myself because of you?!’ to my sisters I would like to say ‘how could you guys? Why?’ and to that guy that tripped me today I would like to say ‘I hate people like you! How could you live with yourself?!’ and to everyone ‘I’m sorry I wasn’t perfect, I’m sorry I ever loved you, and good-bye forever.”

His name was Jeff.
He killed himself on June 15th.
The guy who tripped him,
Killed himself the following week.
Jeff’s dad was arrested for child abuse the day after Jeff died.
Don’t play jokes that can hurt people;
Because even if you don’t mean to,
You can make someone kill themselves or take their life.
