Breaking the Rules

by AllHailTheHeartbreaker   Jan 23, 2005

In the dark, half-past midnight
And I'm climbing out of my window
My parents are fast asleep
And we're already talking - our voices low.

This is the scenario
Of so many summer nights
When we're breaking the rules
Even though we know our wrongs and rights.

The truck rumbles down an old country road
Without the headlights on
And we laugh to ourselves
Knowing that what we're about to do is wrong.

Mr. Sherwood's cow field
Is blacker than ink
As we climb through the fence
Our minds turning as we think.

Moments later, we're back in the truck
Making a quick get-away
After a round of cow tipping
Just as the stars begin to fade with a new day.

You laugh and pat me on the back
Saying what a great team we make
And how we'll always be "partners in crime"
Wanted: Kate and Jake

And as I climb back through my window
I turn and give you a kiss on the cheek
Our Friday night cow tipping has come to an end
But there's always next week...

These memories combined are a treasure I'll hold
Closer to my heart than the most precious of jewels
Friday nights were so exciting.
Because we were breaking the rules.
