A Soldiers's Life

I am a soldier,
I am a friend,
I am a husband,
I am a father,

I have everything to lose,
and nothing to gain,
the only thing I have to look forward to,
is probably going through pain,
I would not be the only one,
who would suffer should I happen to fall,
It would be my family, children, and wife,
and I would miss them most of all,
I did not come to kill or be killed,
It was only for my country,
in its darkest hour of need,
I came to feel my country's pride,
when we do succeed,
although we should understand,
war is never good,
but no matter how right, no matter how wrong,
war is war,
and we will fight til dawn
