Soldier's Daughter

by AllHailTheHeartbreaker   Jan 24, 2005

She stands alone
Waving good-bye
To her one and only father
Tears fall as she starts to cry.

But she knows he's needed
Across the nation's seas
Where Iraq's land lies
And her tears dry in a soft summer breeze.

She remembers his promise
That he'll come home safely
But that seems like forever
And time has been passing slow lately.

A year and a half later
Came the bad news she'd grown to dread
She fell to her knees, sobbing
When they told her he was dead.

In the front yard is an American flag
Tied on the flagpole, near the creek's running water
Still waiting for him to come home
Forever she'll be a soldier's daughter.

NOWHERE in my poem does it say that the war is pointless. It's about a DAUGHTER losing her one and only FATHER, that's all. Yes, it did really happen (not to me, but still) and I wish people would just respect the poetry and other people's feelings. If there is any more arguing through these comments, then I'm taking the poem off the site.

Um, no I don't really think Bush is totally wrong, but I see your point. I do think Bush is in a tough spot - between " a rock and a hard place", if you will, and he's just trying to get through it all. But whatever.
