Emboldened

Emboldened.
Emboldened by praises imagined,
from smiles offered.
Acknowledgement addicts,
admiration seeps in and elates them,
offering a high they can’t resist.
Emboldened by congratulations, and cheers,
fake whispers of nameless treasures and rewards.
Emboldened by masked people with promises,
promises of great things to come in exchange.
In exchange for all.
Emboldened, by the sighs of profit.
By the insignificant droning on of meaningless words,
meaningless actions, meaningless people.
People you’ll leave behind, and never see again.
People you’ll pass on the street, nod at, and pass on.
People you’ll deny friendship with, people who’ll deny you.
People who are everything and nothing.
Molded by pushes and cheers, by congrats and whining.
Made up of other peoples wishes,
built by other peoples wants. Other peoples smiles.
Spur of the moment admiration that counts
for nothing more than that split second of approval,
gone in a split second, leaving behind the need for more.
The need to please, and be admired, and please and be admired.
Offered praises, acknowledgement, whispers.
Emboldened.
