That Silent Boy (Autistic)

by Rachel   Jan 29, 2005

He can speak no words, just communicate through sounds,
Noises that are true to him, words that reach no bounds.
Stares that see only emptiness, darkness in the light,
Cloudy bubbles shadow his eyes, blurring the real sight.

Whispers in his ears, imaginary sounds,
Blocking out the words I speak, the ones that reach no bounds.
If he does focus on me, and stare past all the clouds,
It’s as if he looks right through me, to another, black and white world.

Maybe he sees my lips moving, but lives in only silence,
Perhaps he hears my words, but sees only one big blur.

He talks to me through senses, tells me how he feels,
Shares his pain and anger, tries to break free of all the seals, which tie him down.
He wants to know I see him, confused, he can’t see me,
He needs to know I hear him, try and help to set him free.

His screams are just loud noises, to all the people by his side,
But to him, they’re desperate cries in need, no more tears, too many cried.
He rocks his body, on his own,
Moans in the language only he knows.

Knows he is alone, in his silent world.
That silent boy, desperate to be found.
