Not What Is

by Mira   Jan 31, 2005

Dreaming of multiple outcomes
All of them end up the same
Wish I could change one
Change it to fit what should be
Not what is

One is when I held a knife
Wondering what to make of life
Is it worth it?
Is it right?
Not what is seen, but what isn't seen

One is when I saw a bottle of pills
Sitting on a counter
Should I?
Would I really be free?
Not what is seen, but what isn't seen

One is when I touched a gun
Pondering what would happen
If I pulled the trigger?
If I died?
Not what is seen, but what isn't seen

I saw all those outcomes
All of them end up the same
Wish I could change one
Change it to fit what should be
Not what is

But see not what is seen, but what isn’t seen
I didn't see the pitying glances
I didn't see the sorrow
I didn't see the fear
I didn't see the compassion
I didn't see the trauma
Behind eyes around me as I held the knife, saw the pills, touched the gun

Dreaming of multiple outcomes
All of them end up the same
Wish I could change one
Change it to fit what should be
Not what is
