That Familiar Highway

by They Call Me Megan   Jan 31, 2005

I watch you drive along the familiar highway
The laughter floats from the car to the clouds
It interlaces and flirts with my wishful thoughts
My stomach floats in anticipation
As you round the last sharp curve
Silence falls upon the contented bunch
It reminds me of the path I created leaving this hell-hole
I watched your car drive along that familiar highway
But the laughter wasn’t hanging in the air
It was the stench of unlawful death
I cringe to think of the forceful ending
As you drove on that familiar highway
Over the limit trying to fight away my last mingling screams
My sadness charged inside me as it began to rain
While my tears fell from my cheeks onto the scene below
My sweet revenge is millions of miles away hidden amongst the hurt, decayed, and slaughtered
You fought for the last word
But as you drive over the limit fighting away my last mingling screams
You notice while you pull onto the final exit
Those last words were all you were ever going to hear
You drove on that familiar highway once last time
All alone
Alone to fight away my last mingling screams.
