Memorial Day

Lives lost, tears shed
worried thoughts flowing through loved ones heads
middle of the night awakenings by horrifying dreams
just thinking about hearing their kin scream
imagining their family die
then losing the thought in the blink of an eye
remembering that truly breath taking day
when they got a letter explaining that a loved one past away
constant headaches follow never ending tears
thinking about how this was one of their worst fears
losing someone who meant so much
they would give anything to once again feel their touch
a hug or kiss on the cheek
but all they have is to feel weak
now we have 3 dates to remember them by
a birthday, day of death, and today
a day that by most, is shut away
not wanting to remember what's past
don't want to think of them being gone at last
on this day, we all should give thanks
to all the lost soldiers in all different ranks
a time to solute to what they'd done for our nation
in a time of great need and devastation
i think we should all look back
give thanks for what we lack
remember those lost forever
especially those of us who haven't lost anyone, ever
today, bring remembrance to those who were brave
for those who felt they had a country to save
be thankful in every way
look back on those lost, on today, Memorial Day
