Start to finish

by perrin   Feb 5, 2005

You've trained for this all season
You walk up to the starting line
Ready to strut your stuff
You huddle with your teammates and pray

You leaning forward as if frozen to the line
The gun fires and so do you
You push yourself to keep ahead
People cheer to keep you going

You can't give up-you've worked too hard
Your breathing is getting heavier
You need to slow down
But you don't

Plenty of runners are behind you
many colors of jerseys-a rainbow
You hear,"Catch'um, one by one!"
You're almost there

As you approach the shoot, you give it everything
Friends and family are on either side of you
It seems so far away
You're there, you're there, the white line

You're panting like a dog
You did it
Friends come to hug you
State meet, here I come
