One Year Ago

I can remember the day,
exactly one year ago.
When I got that awful call,
with the news about you.

Kandise called me at school,
and told me we had to go.
You were dying quickly,
no time to say no.

We got in the car,
and drove quickly away.
Headed for Wausau,
crying all the way.

We got there in time,
to tell you we loved you.
We left you that night,
knowing it was good-bye.

The next morning they went,
grandpa and Auntie Diane.
To shut off the machines,
stopping your pain and letting you rest.

Tears filled my eyes,
my broken heart bled.
Hearing the tragic news,
that my uncle was dead.

We knew it was coming,
but it still hurt like heck.
Losing an uncle for the second time,
with no time for regret.

I hope you are here with me,
pushing me to be what I want to be.

As the first year without you passes,
even though I cannot see you,
I know that you're still here.
You're the wind that blows, through the trees,
the soft whispers in the rain.
Even though I cannot see you;
I know you're never far,
because you're now my angel…
my bright and shining star.

I just want you to know,
we all miss you very much.
We hold your memories close to us,
never forgetting a single one.

Thank you for watching over us,
and keeping all of us safe.
I know you will continue,
to watch us day and night.

for now my note must end.

Dedicated to my Uncle Tom who passed away exactly one year ago today. He will always be remembered!
