Listen

by Jacklyn   Feb 8, 2005

Listen for our freedom,
Listen for the last gunshot,
Listen for the last prays answered,
That her husband return safe,
That her son returns home,
That her uncle returns alive,

Listen for the speech declaring both victory and defeat,
For the names of the soldiers taken down,
For the ones that suffered to leads bust,
For the ones who screamed in so much pain,
Cried for life’s end,
For the men who had to hear this,

Making there hopes run dry and thin,
Making there dreams turn to violent nightmares,
Listen for the last name said,
For those who ended up dead,
For those who remain missing and gone,
For those who are missing half a leg or arm,

Listen for when they all return home,
For when you hear them opening the door,
For when they call your name and a relief you feel,
Feel their hugs they give once they know they don’t have to go,
When they have seen so much blood,
And seen so much horror,
Seen men of all ages fall to the ground,
Seeing graves dug for men with no return home,

Of all the woman that just became widows,
All the kids that now who have no father,
Of all the sisters now with no brother,
Of all the friends and family now alone,
The effects that war has on the world,
Everyone knows but still we fight on,

We fight for money, power and land,
But is that what you really need to live and love?
Listen for the cries of everyone’s lost love,
Its cry is the greatest of all,
Defiantly in this time of war,
Listen to the silence for the men’s return home,
For so many have died, so many won’t come,

I listen everyday for his footsteps and the opening door,
I listen for him and wonder, as I begin to lose hope,
I have listened for so long as I realized my soldier isn’t coming home.

~this poem is kind of based around wars long ago mostly because i only talk about the men in battle and stuff ~

I agree with so many of the things to state in this poem. Such sorrow yet joy for the victories and defeats in wars. I can relate to a certain extent. Well done!
