She told me that she was thankful, For all that I would do. Cook a meal, watch her child, When he had the flu. She told me she was grateful, For helping her get to France. To see her sick mother, As she might not have another chance. She told me she appreciated, Letting her borrow my car. For without four wheels to get to work, She would not get too far. To see her smile, laugh, gleam, Any amount I gladly would pay. But it's not what she told me, It's what she didn't say. She didn't say she loved me, She didn't say she cared. She didn't say she needed me, That's what I wanted to hear. So now I sit angry, Bewildered, and confused. For now it has become obvious, That my generosity was being abused. She had to have known how she felt, Before she accepted my gifts of love. Was she trying to be vindictive, Only God knows above. Or was she just a single mom, Forced into a tough place. Looking for some one to help, To be her saving grace. Regardless I must move on, Tattered heart in my hand. Confident that I'll be back, On my feet I will land. I've learned a valuable lesson, As I move on to another day, Next time I'll listen more attentively, To what She Doesn't Say.
