Out of Place

Feeling isolated and distant whilst
I’m caged in these four walls
Too many highs, too many lows
And far too many falls

So many people surrounding me
And yet I’m so alone
Distanced from society:
Just existing on my own

My psychiatrist says I’m different
That I’m unique to all the rest
But does it have to be this way
My life is one big test

He says I have different values
To the people that I know
And that these different values
Is the reason I’m sometimes low

Does really nobody else out there
Expect a friend to be true
Fun but not two faced…
And willing to help you through

Can’t I just, for once, fit in
And not feel so out of place?
Can’t I just feel part of this world
And not ashamed to show my face?

Too many people judge those like me:
People who are depressed
Thinking that its attention they seek
When its just their confidence that’s suppressed

Too many people judge those like me:
People struggling to make it through
Thinking that they’re petty and weak
When they just don’t know what to do

Will I ever fit into this life?
Will I fit into my skin?
Or will I stay here in this place
And let isolation win?
