Child of pain

by Katherine Huerta   Feb 13, 2005

A child sitting alone
with hunger in her eyes
looks down at the floor
and softly crys

Her mothers not there
to stop her tears
and she and her father
have been apart for years

the welfare lady comes into
the room and tries to push aside
the childs cloth of gloom

so just for a moment things
wouldn't seem so sad for a little girl was left with out a mom or dad
