Whats good about goodbye

by peter prescott   Feb 14, 2005

He's going,he's leaving for some distant shore
To fight again in another pointless war

She said be brave, always be strong
War cant last forever, never that long

When it's all over come back to me
Back to your loving wife and family

He smiled,he kissed her and held her tight
I'll see you in my dreams every night

He said your picture I'll keep close to me
Next to my heart where you'll always be

He drove off in the distance with tears in his eyes
Thinking to himself whats so good about "goodbyes"?

Two weeks later he's doing as he's been told
Killing people, the young and the old

He thinks to himself for all that i see
This isn't for freedom or democracy

Who am i to say how you should live?
Who are you to say my life i should give?

At night he cries himself to sleep
Dreams of his wife with love so deep

The day arrives the sun so bright
He prepares himself for another fight

He kisses her picture, whispers i love you
With pain of fear from what he must do

The battle starts, sounds loud in his ear
The cries of sorrow, pain and fear

A bullet flies deep within his chest
His eyes start to close for eternal rest

He gave his life for what he didn't understand
He lost his life on some distant land

She reads aloud the letter,be proud of him it said
But its my misfortune to tell you that your loving husband's dead

The tears start flowing freely all she can do is cry and cry
Remembering the day he left, whats good about goodbye?
