Legend

The names of legend
Echo throughout time
As if their struggles never dissipate
But remain concentrated
And reverberate through our hearts
As if their accomplishments
Are those of our time

Although their words never
Slipped from their lips
And traveled to our ears
And their sweat
Has never dripped past our dry fingertips
Nor have we wiped their blood
With our cloth
Or dried their tears
We talk of their heroic efforts
And of their hardships

Knowing nothing of their faults
Their defects of character
Nor do we care
As the names of legend
Echo throughout time
And will forever
Past the depths of eternity
And their legacies will live on
Long after their blood does die

Epic tales
Of lives long gone
And of blood shed that has been washed away
Still last
Long after
The scars have been made
Or even faded
And they continue to do so
Because of their valiance
And because of their stature

Yet legend
Evolves
From truths once told
Into desperate reaches of imagination
And become the unattainable
The unsustainable
And the unreliable
Never to be around again
But always in our hearts

Are the names of legend
That faded to dust
Long before the legend became
Of which we speak to this day
