Once upon a time

by Emily Lynn   Jul 21, 2003

Once upon a time on a lonely December night
I took one look at you and everything seemed right
You wordlessly showed me what the future might hold
And I knew right then that we would find love untold

During the past 2½ years it’s sometimes been rough
But all that we’ve shared has made us tough
You taught me how to love and you became my light
Thinking of our memories helps me make it through the night

Without you the future looks dull and gray
When I look in your eyes I can’t look away
You see into my soul, and you know all my fears
You’re the only person I know who makes me laugh through my tears

You bring me the sun on a dark, cloudy day
When I’m lost and alone, you help show me the way
When I need a shoulder or a hand to hold
You somehow know without being told

When you smile at me, I lose my head,
And I sometimes say things I wish I hadn’t said.
It’s no use for me to deny how I feel
Because what’s between us is very real.

I know how I feel and I think you do too.
But I know you are scared of what you might do.
I hope one day we can put it behind us
And maybe then you’ll teach me to trust.
