Wanderlust

by Timothy   Feb 18, 2005

1st Verse: It was only one night of magic,
With the woman of auburn curls;
She needed my strong arms when she came to me with fresh bruises,
Needed me to take her to a place out of this world.

I remember the feel of her dampened cheek,
As it rested upon my bare chest;
We talked all night of running away,
But it was all a lie, I confess.

She fell asleep muttering happiness,
A little smile with her newfound dreams;
I stood by the hotel bed, watching the angel sleep,
Knowing life is NEVER as good as it seems.

Chorus: I'm always heading out the door,
Because I can't take the responsibility;
For holding someone's fragile heart,
When mine has no stability.
My feet will never stop moving me from place to place,
Although my soul is so damn weary;
The stars are all that remain the same,
Because the wanderlust will never release me.

2nd Verse: I've been on my own forever,
Been a man since I was fourteen;
Never knew a father figure,
A man...to keep my life clean.

To find out I was a daddy,
It was more than I could conceive;
But when the little boy looked up at me,
His eyes reflected my own...and I believed.

But a fatherless father I was,
To my son, it would also be;
In my life, I have thoroughly loved,
But I see them all...only in memories.

Repeat Chorus: I'm always heading out the door,
Because I can't take the responsibility;
For holding someone's fragile heart,
When mine has no stability.
My feet will never stop moving me from place to place,
Although my soul is so damn weary;
The stars are all that remain the same,
Because the wanderlust will never release me.
