We chat every day by telephone,
We swap emails most nights.
I feel she’s my closest friend,
In my darkness she adds light.
We talk about many different things,
From France to recipes.
I’m interested in her every thought,
How neat a friendship can be!
I no longer fear she’ll think differently of me,
If she disagrees with how I feel.
I know she cares for me as an ally,
My wounded heart she’s helped heal.
I wish there was a way to transform Like into Love,
For I long for her to be more than a friend.
But I will not risk dissolving our relationship,
By asking her for more than she’s willing to lend.
So must I go through life fully feeling,
That the love of my life is simply a friend?
If I could turn Like into Love,
How beautiful this story would end.
