Innocence Lost

His life so quickly taken,
Stolen without a sound
While i lay confused -
Bleeding on the ground

My heart was shattered today,
As a voice so sternly said,
"I'm afraid i have some news,
Your friend - Shane, Is dead"

I will only blame myself
For losing you today
And i will forever be haunted
By the words i didn't say

Never will i live happily,
Without you by my side;
I just don't understand, God,
He never cheated or lied

So why did you take him,
Why take an innocent guy?
I know i was ignorant,
But i surely did try.

I tried to be there to listen,
Wipe away his lonely tears
And I tried to be a decent friend
For over sixteen youthful years

Four years of heart-filled letters,
We sent abroad, sealed with love
And now I'm crying helplessly
Screaming at the stars above

- If only you'd be angry,
Selfish, cruel and unkind;
Then God wouldn't have taken you
I have no doubt in my mind.

But life must struggle forward,
And I will grieve in pain
Hopefully people will forget me;
As i slowly give up this game
