Will you die for this?

by Künstliche Welten   Feb 27, 2005

Are you going to be the number
On the bottom of the screen
Of the deadening 6 o’clock news?
Will you join their fight
And risk your life
For somebody else’s views?

Is it going to be your coffin
That they’re shipping back home
At 4 a.m. in the dead of night?
Before you fight their wars
You better ask What for
Because the reasoning’s never right

Will you die for this?
Will you die for something that doesn’t exist?
Take a look around you – is it really worth it?

Do you want your mother to be the one
Receiving that folded up flag?
It’s a dollar-store buy
For one ninty nine
That's supposed to reimburse your life

Will you die for this?
Will you die for something that doesn’t exist?
Will you throw it all away for the government’s sh!t?
No, we don’t want your wars

...This was supposed to be a song which is why it's a little on the repetitive side and the vocab resembles that of a twelve-year-old.

And before any of you go off at me about how non-patriotic this one is - remember Joseph Heller's words: anything worth dying for is certainly worth living for.

Peace.

I really enjoyed this poem, although some people were rather rude about it. I suppose they can't see the "killing for peace" is a bit of an oxymoron, encouraging you to have your own opinion, then telling you you're wrong. While you can respect the soldiers fighting in Iraq, you can still disagree with the cause. As to Mike, tell me one thing that was RIGHT about the war in Japan, people are still dieing because of the toxic radioactive elements in the bomb the U.S government decided to drop on them. Anyways, I suppose I'm rambling on a bit...so overall very good poem, don't stop fighting in what you believe in.
