Poetic Tragedy

by Daniel J   Feb 28, 2005

Many hours spent with she,
we sat together by the sea,
At the start of our Poetic Tragedy.

Little did she know it,
For I dared not to show it,
I'd be with she for always.

Arms entwined and gazing forth,
Until the setting of the sun;
look towards the starry north.

The sun has set upon us now,
How I'd have her know right now,
I'd sit with her until the setting,
The final setting of the sun,
For all of eternity.

Smiling slight,
but smiling bright,
he thinks about his sordid plight.

Does she like me, does she not?
Shall I tell her on this spot?

Leaning forth he tells her clear,
His feelings for her:
how he loves her dear.

In my mind, I knew whats to come,
knew what she'd say to the news I've sprung,
It was no secret,
If it were i couldn't keep it,
Everyone knew, it seemed, but she.

A smile spread across her face,
she smiled with such pretty grace,
his heart beating at quite a pace.

Yet I know what awaits me so,
I know the answer will be "no,"
Why I asked I cannot fathom,
But now it's done, too late,
I can't retract.

This is why at night he cried,
she'd never stand by his side,
only: was she there for the ride?

I knew what was to come,
It could have been avoided,
but my feelings were clear,
I couldn't keep them in,
Which is why I say,
With such dismay,
Welcome to my Poetic Tragedy:

To enter with the knowledge,
That I should be refused,
To pursue the cause nontheless,
Knowing the damage it would cause.

Though our end could have been delayed,
And though I knew what she would say,
The action would not have paid,
For our relationship to be stayed.

Yet when the news was out,
And she had refused,
There was darkness in my heart,
For a thousand lights went out,
Upon the tragic news;
My heart is like a wounded dove,
falling from the sky.

Now I saw the fact,
As i could only see it now,
Her love for me was not,
And it had never been.

I see the title and instantly think of a song, "Poetic Tragedy," by The Used. I love that song, and I'm really liking this poem. Lovely work. Well done.
