For a friend

That day when you walked past
And glanced at me as you went by
I new something was different
Just by that look in your eye

I was out the day before,
And I suppose it messed you up
There was something you wanted to tell me
But I wasn't here when your courage was up

When you sat down beside me
With that air of nervousness about you
I could tell by the fear in your voice-
What was coming, before you were through

Now you knew that I love you
Like my best and dearest friend
But that's not all you wanted, no
You wanted more than just a friend

It's not that I wanted to say no
For I hate to do that to any
But when you ask me to pick just one girl to love
When I love so many?

I don't want to let any others down
When I don't know what they want or need
Don't get me wrong though, you are up there too
If not at the top already

But right now I'm very scared
For you're the first to ever ask
But if I've learned anything over these past 15 years
It's never jump too fast

So let's take it slow,
Maybe a movie or two
But as friends for now
And then, who knows? But remember
I'd always love to be with you.
